A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Vice President Harris accepted the Democratic nomination for president during the last night of the Democratic National Convention. She is the first woman, the first person of color, the first HBCU alumna to serve as vice president and as a major party's candidate for president of the United States.

Initiated in Theta Pi (UNC) in 2006, Dr. Hardy has been selected as the 2024 Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Young Alumni Award recipient. This award recognizes outstanding Black alumni, under age 40, who have been stellar leaders within the University community and or within their local community. It is presented annually during the UNC Black Alumni Reunion which takes place during Carolina's Homecoming (read more...).
